The London Coffee Festival

When? Thursday 30th April until Sunday 3rd May.

Where? Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.

How much? £11.50 if you buy your ticket online, or £14.50 if you pay on the door. There's also a group ticket option for £44.50, which gets you four tickets (and you can only buy this online).

The most caffeinated event in the city's calendar returns at the end of the month, just before UK Coffee Week kicks off on Monday 4th May.

A good cause

90% of all the world's coffee comes from developing countries, where around 750 million people don't have easy access to clean water. The London Coffee Festival is actually the launch event for UK Coffee Week. Half of all the money made from ticket sales goes straight to the Allegra Foundation's Project Waterfall – a charity set up to provide coffee-growing countries with clean and fresh water.

We think this is more than enough reason to buy a ticket and get yourself down to Brick Lane. Plus, you spend most of the week studying your course subject in lectures and seminars, so we're sure you'll enjoy learning about something different for a change.

What you can expect

Whether you like yours white or black, bold or mild, sweet or straight, you'll most certainly get your fill at the festival – and your refill too.

But as well as a mass tasting session, it's also an educational opportunity. You'll get to learn about coffee itself – where it comes from, how it's grown, how it's roasted – and you'll see why making a great cup of coffee is both an art and a science. You don't have to be a certified connoisseur or even a major enthusiast to attend – this is the sort of event that'll make you one.

There'll be about 250 different stalls to visit, all offering something slightly different, and you'll see the artisans at work as they craft flat whites and fancy-looking specialities. And don't worry – there'll be plenty of food to choose from.
